2010's Funniest
by Jim Davies, 12/31/2010
Government people are well-armored against most kinds of
criticism and attack, but not one: humor. When large portions of
the population are laughing at them, they know their end is near.
It's been heartening to see signs of such derision this year, and
to end it on a high note I remind you-all of two.
The first is this fabulous, self-explanatory cartoon of Hillary.
The blatant double standard, the utter hypocrisy of the woman is
elegantly sketched in, and of course it applies not just to her
but to all who sail with her - including for example Sarah Palin,
who isn't just a sourpuss about the Wikileaks, she actually wants
the leaker killed. There's a crisp letter here to all who thirst, like her, for Julian Assange's blood. The whole matter has been and will continue as a fine, acid test of what
one really believes about government.
My second choice is a video clip, and it's hilarious. Even if
you saw it already, enjoy a year-end treat by watching it again
and help ridicule the government fictions about the financial
collapse and the alleged recovery: Quantitative
Easing Explained is seven minutes of pure fun.
Such humor is fatal to government, though not necessarily at
once. Perhaps you saw
V for Vendetta
;
I'm not comfortable with V's focus on revenge, but it's a great
movie and one scene makes the point about mockery. The TV
producer ridicules the Chancellor, to the huge delight of his
nationwide audience, but is "black-bagged" that very
night and is never heard from again; such is the unfunny, intense
hatred that is being vented against Assange. Nonetheless, a few months later the Chancellor too is dead, and his government finished.
